Overview of tungsten disulfide:
Difluidized tungsten is a small gray crystal or powder with metallic luster, belonging to the hexagonal crystal system,semi-conducting and diamagnetic. The natural mineral is tungstenite. The layered structure is easy to dissociate and has lubricating properties similar to graphite.
Structure of WS2？WS2 uses a layered structure similar to MoS2 or MoS2 of the same type, rather than coordination spheres with W atoms (instead of molybdenum atoms) in triangular prisms. Due to this layered structure, WS2 forms inorganic nanotubes, which were discovered in 1992 after heating a thin sample of WS2.
Most WS2 forms dark gray hexagonal crystals with a layered structure. Like the closely related MoS2, it has the properties of a dry lubricant.
While it has long been thought that WS2 is relatively stable in ambient air, recent reports on the oxidation of monolayer WS2 in the environment have found that this is not the case. WS2 is converted to tungsten oxide in monolayer form by a fairly rapid photo-oxidation reaction (within several days in ambient light and atmosphere). The oxidation process involves visible wavelength light (<~660 nm />~1.88 eV) that is easily absorbed by the monolayer WS2. In addition to light of the appropriate wavelengths, the reaction requires oxygen and water to proceed, with water thought to be the catalyst for the oxidation. The reaction products include tungsten oxide and sulfuric acid. Likewise, oxidation of other semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides (S-TMDs) such as MoS2 has been observed under ambient light and atmospheric conditions.
WS2 is also attacked by a mixture of nitric and hydrofluoric acids. When heated in an oxygen-containing atmosphere, WS2 converts to tungsten trioxide. When heated without oxygen, WS2 does not melt, but decomposes into tungsten and sulfur, but the decomposition temperature is only 1250 ℃.
Historically, the separation of monolayer WS2 has employed a chemical exfoliation method, i.e., intercalation of lithium from n-butyllithium (in hexane), followed by sonication in water to strip the intercalated lithium compound. WS2 was also exfoliated by treatment with various reagents such as chlorosulfonic acid and lithium halide.
Application of tungsten disulfide:
What is the application range of tungsten disulfide?
Tungsten disulfide can be used as a lubricant with better performance than molybdenum disulfide, lower friction coefficient and higher compressive strength.Separately used for high temperature, high pressure, high speed, high load, and equipment operating in chemically active media. The forging and stamping lubricants configured with other materials can extend the life of the mold and improve the finish of the product.Filling materials configured with polytetrafluoroethylene and nylon can be used to make self-lubricating parts. In addition, tungsten disulfide can also be used as a catalyst in the petrochemical industry, with the advantage of cracking tungsten disulfide. (WS2)or tungsten disulfide is a very smooth dry film friction coating. The friction coefficient of WS2 is extremely low,at 0.03,which is lower than PTFE,graphite or molybdenum disulfide (MoS2).Compared with many other WS2,it has unparalleled performance in terms of lubricity,non-stick,low friction, wear life and rated size.It has a wide range of applications in transistors, sensors, photocatalysis, electronic equipment, etc.Tungsten disulfide powder has good solubility in water and ethanol.
WS2 is an excellent release material for plastic molds, extrusion dies and other demolding applications.
WS2 can eliminate the need for hydraulic oil,or can be used with petrochemical oil, grease, synthetic oil, silicone valve and hydraulic oil.It has affinity for the fluid layer and maintains the fluid layer. It helps to keep oil or grease on the surface, thereby further improving the lubrication effect. When the thickness is less than 1 micron, small parts can be coated without tolerance problems.
WS2 is also a fairly inert and non-toxic material that has been used in medical equipment and food processing applications.
WS2 replaces customer base materials by performing high-speed processing at ambient temperature. It does not make the substrate continuous or warped.
WS2 can be used alone or combined with our PVD hard coating to improve durability, high performance, stable and reliable catalytic activity, and long service life.
